"So many people told me how Tri-C had made a difference in their lives. We help them make their dreams come true.” Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton
The College was maturing. Undeniably, Tri-C has had remarkable success by continually adapting in response to the changing needs of students, community and corporate partners. By the 1990’s, the College had enabled hundreds of thousands of Greater Cleveland students to pursue their dreams and improve their lives through post-secondary education. The College boasted three campuses, an enrollment of 23,000 students from the Greater Cleveland area and had graduated thousands of the skilled workers who were transforming the area’s workforce and economy.
In 1992 when Dr. Jerry Sue Thornton became the third president, she immediately pursued strategies that would strengthen the institution financially, broaden the school’s spectrum of educational opportunities and solidify Tri-C’s position as a thought leader in the community.
Not one to be complacent, Dr. Thornton relentlessly pursued initiatives that expanded the scope of the College and ensured its long-term viability. She seemed to follow the advice she offered students:
"Success is garnered one step at a time. There is no elevator to the top. Hard work, commitment and preparation are major parts of those steps.”
